Process FAQs
Donor Concierge case managers have a collective 25+ years of experience in the donor search space. Our approach is holistic, empathy-led, and fine-tuned to ensure our intended parents find their perfect match and all the resources they will need along the way. We're experts and we believe our value lies in our expertise and our connections within this field.
We cannot guarantee that you will find a match, but we can guarantee we will provide you with all available candidates who meet your criteria at the time of your search. We can also proudly share that our case managers have a 95% match rate and will provide one of the most extensive searches available to anyone on a donor search path.
Donor Concierge has built upon our research over the last 25 years to develop preferential relationships with hundreds of top-tier agencies and other fertility professionals. We deeply vetted all of our agency partners. When we help you with your match, we will share each agency's background information and their policy vs. other agency partners.
Yes, of course. We have a 'Parent to Parent' program - these are former clients who are willing to connect with you to answer questions about their experience not just with Donor Concierge but also with their donor conception and gestational surrogacy journey. Feel free to ask your case manager about connecting you.
Booking a combination search with us is called a “bundle,” and we'll discount the full cost by $500 (rather than separate bookings). We'll start with the egg donor search first, and once your chosen donor cycle has begun, we'll start working on your surrogate search.
Egg Donor FAQs
All clinics prefer local donors and/or those from their in-house donor program because the donor is already known to the clinic. However, it's important that you feel comfortable with your donor choice so we can expand our donor search to fit your preferred location better.
If a young woman is a first-time donor, she will most likely have no testing at all beyond a review of her self-reported medical history. Given this, a handful of agencies will perform baseline fertility testing such as an AMH test or an antral follicle count. A repeat donor may have had some previous testing, but clinics or agencies may still perform additional testing. A donor must be officially matched before she can have genetic testing since she needs to be under the care of a doctor who can interpret the results on her behalf.
Donor Concierge teams use the most well-vetted and high-caliber databases and agencies when working on your donor search. All the agencies we work with have solid reputations for carefully screening candidates. All agencies ask potential egg donor candidates to provide identification documentation photographs and undergo extensive interviews. They emphasize the need to be truthful, especially regarding medical history. While we can never know if anyone is being completely sincere, it’s our experience that most donors understand the need to be transparent and honest.
During your Donor Concierge intake, let us know if you want to meet your egg donor so we can coordinate accordingly with potential donor agencies. Many donors are delighted to meet their recipients, but some are not, and it’s important to respect that decision. For those interested in meeting their intended parents, the meeting can help both parties form a deeper connection and offer a sense of comfort during such an emotional and powerful process.
Egg donors don’t just “do it for the money.” We’ve heard firsthand from donors and agencies how often young women see egg donation as a special way to help people struggling to build their families.
Your egg donor is definitely not your child’s mother. The donor contributed a small part of her body to your family-building process. You will be the person who raises your child, who nurtures and loves them. The donor plays a special role, but she is not your child’s mother.
Sperm Donor FAQs
The number of sperm vials depends on your personal fertility journey. For IUI, it is usually recommended you purchase at least 3 vials. But, in some cases, you may need to do more than one IUI cycle for a successful pregnancy. For IVF, usually 1-2 vials are recommended. Extra vials are also helpful to ensure you have a backup if the first vial doesn’t thaw properly or if you want to do a sibling cycle in the future.
If you are doing IVF or an egg donor cycle, you do not need to purchase a specific type of specimen. If you are planning on doing an IUI cycle, then you would need to purchase ICI for home insemination or washed for IUI at your clinic.
Intended parents are required to report to the cryobanks if there is a pregnancy. Once the sperm donor has created 25 pregnancies, they will retire the donor.
Most cryobanks have at least childhood photos of all sperm donors available. A few may have adult photos, but this is up to the sperm donor to provide.
Unfortunately, no. Each cryobank has its own policies regarding photographs. Once the donor has completed his donation, we cannot have the cryobank contact the donor.
The profiles contain the donor’s educational background, health history for the donor and his immediate family, genetic testing results, basic physical information, open-ended essay questions, staff impressions, ancestry, and usually at least one photo.
Donor Concierge only works with 30+ agencies and FDA-approved sperm banks. Fertility clinics only work with sperm donors who have passed full FDA testing requirements.
If you are doing IUI, you must know your CMV status. If you are CMV+, you can likely use CMV+/- sperm donors. If you are CMV-, you can only use CMV- donors. If you are doing IVF, some doctors will allow you to use any CMV +/- donors. Please check with your doctor on their preference before the search.
Yes, there are an increasing number of sperm donors now who have Open ID, which means they are open to contact when the child is a legal adult (age 18).
Yes, Donor Concierge offers direct search services that can find sperm donors who are willing to be exclusive. Please contact us for more details.

An egg donor or sperm donor search can bring up many questions – some emotional, some financial, and some logistical. At Donor Concierge, our case managers take pride in addressing each question thoughtfully. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about the donor process.
Your go-to donor process blog
We’ve heard from our intended parents just how stressful and overwhelming finding a donor egg or sperm can be. While we take the load of the donor search off your plate, you can read through our blog for additional resources and insight into how other families met their perfect match.
LGBTQIA+ FAQs
About 25% of our clients identify as LGBTQIA+. Plus, our entire team has been accredited by Family Equality, an organization that provides 'Open Door' training to help companies understand the needs of LGBTQIA+ intended parents.
We work with many male couples who will both contribute sperm. Finding a donor who will produce many eggs is not always predictable. We suggest introducing the idea of doing two cycles with the donor in the event that her cycle yields fewer eggs than you'd hoped. Most donors are open to this possibility.
We prioritize having these conversations before matching since some donors may want limited contact. While many donors are open to meeting intended parents and the children bore from their donation, being a part of the child's life may be something other than what they'd planned for. A mental health therapist experienced in donor conception can help you navigate this relationship.
We've worked with many HIV+ intended parents. We'll walk you through the whole process.
