How Georgia screens egg and sperm donors
Donor Concierge’s vetted Georgia donor agencies all follow the strict standards and guidelines set forth by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and our own Donor Concierge standards.
ABOUT EGG DONOR SCREENINGS:
The FDA requires that egg donors undergo a physical examination and be screened for infectious diseases. At the same time, the ASRM recommends additional screening measures such as psychoeducational counseling, genetic screening, and complete medical history.
The ASRM’s recommendations also include donors:
-
Be between the ages of 21 and 34
-
Have good physical health, which is determined through a physical exam, including a pelvic ultrasound
-
Undergo a psychological evaluation and counseling to ensure that the egg donor understands her role in the family-building process and is emotionally and mentally stable
ABOUT SPERM DONOR SCREENINGS:
Sperm donors must meet the following requirements:
-
Be between the ages of 21 and 39
-
Have a healthy family history with no hereditary diseases or addictions
-
Pass FDA protocols for semen analysis, psychological testing, and infectious disease screening
-
Have minimal genetic conditions
-
Be college-educated

Egg and Sperm Donation FAQs
Can my donor travel to Georgia to donate?
Your donor may not live near your Georgia fertility clinic. For egg donors, this may mean she'll need to travel to your clinic for the egg donation process. Your clinic and egg donor agency will coordinate this to suit the donor's availability. You will be responsible for paying her travel costs.
What donor characteristics are important?
The most important characteristics of a donor are that they have good fertility health, is available to donate, and wants to donate. You might also look for donors who look like someone in your family or share your heritage, hair color, or interests. Donor Concierge will find you all the available Illinois donors who come as close as possible to your desired criteria.
What is the difference between a fresh and frozen egg donation cycle?
The primary difference between fresh and frozen egg donation cycles is the need to synchronize the menstrual cycles of the egg donor and recipient. In a fresh egg donation cycle, the egg donor and recipient’s cycles are synchronized so that the fertilized embryo will be quickly transferred into the recipient’s uterus for implantation. In a frozen egg donation cycle, the eggs are retrieved and cryopreserved for later use. Once ready, the frozen eggs are thawed, fertilized, and prepared for IVF.
Will my baby look like me if I use a donor?
We do our best to match you with donors who look like they could be a part of your extended family. Maybe a cousin, or a sibling. During your Donor Concierge intake process, you will share pictures of yourself, your partner, and your family with your case manager so that they can keep your physical appearance in mind when curating your potential donors. While no one can guarantee what a baby will look like once they are born (not even families who are conceiving through traditional means), our team will prioritize matching you with donors to whom you feel a connection and resemblance.
Why would someone need a donor?
Egg and sperm donations help many different types of people and families have a child.
What are the chances of pregnancy with donor eggs?
According to the preliminary 2020 report from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART), 44.6% of cycles involving fresh donor eggs resulted in a live birth, with 41.1% of frozen cycles resulting in a live birth. See the 2020 report from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART).
Is it hard to bond with your baby when you use donor eggs?
It’s not uncommon for intended parents to have concerns about using a donor egg to have a child, especially about whether or not they’ll be able to bond with a baby that is not genetically related to them. However, people who have gone through the egg donation process and everything it entails are people who want more than anything to have a child. The love they feel for their baby begins to grow way before conception. While bonding with a newborn can be difficult for anyone, including parents who have had a child the traditional way, many parents with donor-conceived children find themselves overjoyed and completely in love with the baby once it’s born.
Can you guarantee you'll find me a donor?
We cannot guarantee that you will find a match, but we can guarantee we will provide you with all available candidates who meet your criteria at the time of your search. We can also proudly share that our case managers have a 95% match rate and will provide one of the most extensive searches available to anyone on a donor search path.
Should I tell my child that they were conceived using donor sperm or eggs?
It’s a very personal choice to decide to tell your child that they were conceived using donor sperm or eggs. The general recommendation is to tell your child when you think they are ready. Although conversations with your child about their donor origins may seem overwhelming, many available resources can help ease the process, including books, support groups, counseling, and The Donor Sibling Registry.
